Applesauce

Homemade applesauce is so superior to store-bought that I try to always keep a homemade batch frozen for use in baking, desserts, or to serve with pork chops.

Servings: 8-10

Fresh
5 apples, Macintosh or other red variety

Pantry
1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
3/4 cup granulated sugar

Prepare apples
Peel and core the apples. Cut into quarters and place in a large pot over medium heat.

Boil apples
Add the cinnamon and sugar to the apples and stir. Bring to a boil, apples will release juices providing liquid to the mixture. Once boiling, turn heat down to low and simmer, partly covered, for 30 to 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. If apples do not breakdown while stirring, use a potato masher to achieve desired consistency.

Serve
Serve warm. Applesauce also freezes well for reheating and serving later.
