Chex Mix

This is a classic recipe, a close version found on the box of Chex® cereal during the holidays. My mother made this for holiday parties and the smell from the oven makes me think of Christmas. I modified the standard version slightly because I don’t keep garlic or onion powder in my pantry.

Servings: 24 (1/2 cup each)

Fresh
3 Tbsp. butter
2 cloves garlic, minced

Pantry
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp. minced onions
2 tsp. season salt
9 cups of Chex® cereal, any combination of Corn, Rice, or Wheat varieties
1 cup mixed nuts
1 cup peanuts
1 cup bite-size pretzels
2 cups bagel chips, any variety, I prefer the garlic flavor

Prepare topping
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees-F. Melt the butter in a large roasting pan in the oven, approximately 3 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and mix in the garlic, onions, and salt. Stir until combined.

Bake mix
Add the cereal, nuts, pretzels, and bagel chips to the roasting pan. Stir to coat evenly with the butter topping. Bake for one hour, stirring occasionally.

Cool mix
Remove the baked mix to paper towels  to dry.

Serve
Serve immediately or store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to three days.
